It is understood from reliable sources that Joyppan (Joy Joseph Elackattuparambil, resident of Stockport) has been served with a show-cause notice by the Manchester Knanaya Unit of UKKCA.
Joyppan who is at work could not be contacted and a copy of the notice could not be seen by British Kna.
It is however, learned that the allegation is that he insulted “Women” and that he should explain why action should not be taken against him.
This raises a number of questions.
Joyppan is a humorist of some reputation amongst Malayalees of U.K. and his talents were recognised by UKKCA Central Committee during the recent Convenction. Kunjan Nambiar who was another satirist/humourist in the good old days was punished and exiled by his patron King several times for making fun of him. But, times have changed. India (where we all were born) and Britain (where we live now) are free countries and both these countries respect freedom of expression. Who are these petty officials of Manchester Unit of UKKCA to deny anyone that freedom?
Did they receive any written complaint about the “insult?” In that case, who complained and why did he/she complain? Did Joyppan insult anyone personally?
MKKCA Mughals should come out with an open statement explaining why such an unprecedented action has been taken against a member of the Unit. They should not forget the fact that UKKCA, unlike Catholic Church, is a democratic set up and members have the power to recall anyone who takes steps that are not in accordance with the clauses of UKKCA Constitution. They should not assume power that they do not possess.

As per the bylaw, "UKKCA is formed to unite all Knanaya Catholics who are now living in the United Kingdom". If someone walks away from the mainstream it is the duty of the UKKCA to find out the cause/ reason for such an action and try to bring him back to the mainstream. We are Catholics and follow the way of Jesus who left the 99 sheeps in the desert and was after the lost one. He did not give any notice to the lost one or curse him. That is Christian love and Christian spirituality. Therefore the Spiritual advisor should act on it.

" The National council may by unanimous vote and for good reason to terminate the membership of any individual concerned shall have the right to be heard by the National council before a final decision is made."
Now the question is, can a unit exercise such a right to an individual without the consent of the National Council?
If such a notice is given has it got the validity?
Where were these leaders who now claim to be the redeemers of Knanites when Cinemala comedy programme was telecasted in which our priests and the nun were mocked at very badly (Sr.ABHAYA CASE). Now I know why the UKKCA Constitution was so far kept away from ordinary members. The ignorant, self-styled rulers of UKKCA (Central and Units) till today could do whatever they wanted to. Now, my dear ones, the cat is out and the Constitution is public. Everybody now knows that a Unit Secretary has no authority to serve a notice to a UKKCA member.
ReplyDeleteUKKCA Constitution consists of only 12 pages (excluding the cover and Index pages). If the men who come forward and occupy responsible positions in the association cannot spend half an hour to read and understand the constitution of the organisation, I think they could be more useful in their kitchen washing utensils and helping their wives. Please leave such important responsibility to competent and capable members of the community. There is no scarcity for such men and women in our community.
Now, dear Manchester Unit Secretary, will you explain why action should not be initiated against you for acting in total violation of the Constitution of UKKCA.
A Unit Secretary has no right to issue a notice to a member of UKKCA.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, the Secretary of Manchester Unit should withdraw the show-cause notice served to Joyppan and apologise for his mistake.
What is democracy? It is the freedom to disagree. That is why, we have parliament, executive, judiciary and media to control the people elected to govern. Now, UKKCA leaders should not be allowed to function like the team of Joseph Stalin. Joyppan is not a mere ordinary member of U.K. Knanaya Community. He is recognised as a brilliant writer by the entire Malayalee Community of U.K. When such a person with a social commitment points out some mistakes that happened in the election, the people in authority should take serious note of it and try to find out what has gone wrong.
Instead, what has happened?
Knanaya Community in U.K. cannot afford to keep such people in power.

"Any notice required to be served on any member of the association shall be in writing and shall be served by the Gen. Secretary or the Central committee on any memebr either personally or by serving it through the post..." So the unit secretary has no right to issue a notice to a member.So the unit secretary should go through the bylaw thoroughly before taking any action atlest in future, otherwise the issuing person wll be in trouble

ReplyDeleteI’m person proud to be recognised as a person belonging to Joyppan’s community and have high appreciation for his works. With basic knowledge on any language and an interest on any topic one can easily write on any subject, but that doesn’t mean you will be admired or appreciated, but only very few can convey the message through entertaining readers and Joyppan is one of those, which is being acknowledged by the International Malayalee Community.
ReplyDeleteA Knannaite will remain as a Knannaite till his or her death, unless he/she intentionally changes their religion, no one in this world can snatch that birth right, which applies equally to Joyppan. Thus all Knannaites will remain active members of the Kananya community and have the right to express their views in any form against unpopular decisions, which is again purely democratic. Only an ignorant person will try to impose any illegal measures against these facts and let’s hope our unit as well as national office bearers understand this fact.

I think, there is no major crisis in Manchester. People are exaggerating. If the President, Secretary, Joyppan and Saji Achan sit together and talk for 10 minutes, Manchester Unit will be as strong as before. It is a pity no one has thought about such a simple solution.
