UKKCA Constitution (Voting)

An organization without a proper constitution is like Christianity without Bible.

The constitution ensures a proper code of behaviour and orderly way of functioning. UKKCA is no exception for this rule.

Strangely, our great Knanaya organization in U.K. has a total contempt for its constitution. From what is happening now-a days, I wonder if any of the members of the governing body has read the UKKCA Constitution. An ordinary member of the community has no access to the constitution. UKKCA site does not contain it. (Whereas KCCNA site has uploaded its constitution in their site).

If this organisation should become something meaningful and purposeful, we should start with the constitution amendments. A Committee of experts should be appointed. Their recommendations should be discussed by the units who should send their comments to the committee and only then it should be finalised.

UKKCA should have a permanent Constitution Committee who should give training to the elected executives on the provisions and by-laws of the constitution.

The present debate is about the voting rights of 18 years old members. The Constitution is very clear about it and no such debate is necessary if the warring factions read the relevant clauses in UKKCA Constitution reproduced below for the information all.

A Unit under the UKKCA can be formed with a minimum of 10 Knanaya Catholic Families (with at least 20 voting members above the age of 18) and not less than 25 miles away from the next nearest unit. [Article – IV, Section A, Unit of UKKCA]

Nobody shall be appointed as a member of the National Council who is aged less than 18 years. [Article – V, Section A: (7) National Council]

Unfortunately, it seems the UKKCA leaders believe that “it is a crime to be wise where ignorance is a bliss!”

  1. obviously if someone is over 18 they should be given the right to vote!!! it is just common sense. what the debate could be about is what is the minimum age to become an office bearer of UKKCA and individual Units. Please do not say that because he/she is a member of KCYL they cannot become office bearer of individual Units or UKKCA. Also one need to understand that the president of UKKCYL should also be the advisory or youth representative of UKKCYL youths to UKKCA!
