UKKCA Constitution: Some Thoughts

Thank you for starting the British Kna blog,

UKKCA celebrated its 10th Anniversary but does it have a proper byelaw. How many of its leaders had taken the initiative in amending the same. Of course when it was started the founders might have thought of it as only as a Kna gathering. Now the situation changed and there is a great need to ammend the bye law. Regarding the formation of a unit, 25 miles from the nearest unit. Some say it is from the President's house others say it is from city centre to city centre. Once the president changes the distance is calculated from the resident's of the new president. Is it a proper way

How is election conducted. Who is responsible. Who is the presiding officer. When should the voters list be published. Anyone to check the voters list. Should the ladies be given reservation, Can those who complete the age of 18 be given the voting right if so is there any minimum age to become a UKKCA officer bearer

All these questions are to be answered. and no one knows and each unit intrepret as they like. From the above facts I wonder whether it is a democratic organisation. It is really a shame on Kna people to have such an association. Please the elected leaders do something concrete.

  1. Is this UKKCA Constitution a secret document? Has anybody seen or read it? What should one do to see a copy to check the provisions and to see if the recent developments are in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

    Any help will be appreciated.

  3. Firstly,

The by-laws should be published on the UKKCA website. Every member has the right to view the by-law. By-Laws should be reviewed every 2-5 years and changes made if it is necessary.

Secondly every person who is over the age of 18 and Kna should be given the right to vote at UKKCA election if they want and a person above the age of 21 should be given the right to become an office bearer as in most countries the voting right is something different to leading a nation/organisation.

What do you mean by giving the Ladies reservation? Please expand on that.

More information should be given to the people regarding how the elections are being conducted etc. Forgive me if the information is already provided.

One thing which need to be made clear is wehther all Kna UK units are under the UKKCA, if so then the office bearers of each unit and UKKCA should sit down and make a some rules and this should solve a lot of problems such as 25 miles from nearest unit etc. Ultimatley it would not be individual units which interprets things in the way they want but UKKCA and individual Unit office bearer and the kna people together as one.
